Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has become one of the fundamental practices in general surgery. This technique refers to using small incisions over the abdominal wall, placing a camera inside the abdomen, and working through the small incisions. Evidence has shown that this technique leads to less postoperative pain, decrease risk of surgical site infection, and earlier return to work and regular life. "Robotic Surgery" is a fairly new type of minimally invasive surgery where the surgeon uses a robotic device to go through the small incisions and work inside the abdomen in a similar manner. MIS is now used for a wide variety of abdominal surgeries.
